Doodle

Doodle's fan tutorials

Well over ten years ago at a small Ohio music festival, Doodle encountered flow arts for the first time, and he knew he’d found his path. He started down it, poi in hand, never to look back. Struggling to find likeminded folks in his hometown, Doodle migrated to the city to pursue his dream of continuing his art and finding a community to share it. Doodle’s dedication to and passion for the fire and flow arts grew exponentially as he helped to launch and run a performance group, picking up skill with a variety of new props along the way. Eventually, his inability to resist a challenge led him to fire fans, and it turned out they were exactly what he needed - an expressive release for his analytically creative spinning style. Inspired by this new prop, Doodle decided it was time to step things up; he began teaching and making YouTube videos and brief tutorials called Doodle Bytes, and he got serious about his stage performances. Immersing himself in the Burning Man community inspired Doodle to further focus on using his art to give back to others. He took a leap of faith and left his performance group to fully dedicate himself to teaching and advancing the community that had helped him so much along his own path. Mutual respect and professional admiration between Doodle and a Georgia-based prop manufacturer, Forged Creations, led to Forged offering him a set of any fans he wanted. In typical Doodle style, he designed a custom set to his own specifications that would allow for both precise technical moves and a full range of expressive fan movement, and the Doodlegrips(TM) were born. Forged and Doodle worked closely together to perfect the design and partnered up to produce them and make them available to the community. Doodlegrips(TM) became a hit with a wide cross-section of fan spinners, leading to the production of Doodlegrip(TM) practice fans and a small line of other Doodlegrip(TM)-related items, including custom-printed clothing produced by Modek, stickers, and more. Doodle has traveled from coast to coast and internationally, sharing with others what he has learned and learning from the people he shares with.
